Preparation Method :

  • Preheat oven to 180°C / 350°F / Gas mark 5.
  • Grease 1 - litre shallow ovenproof dish with melted butter and arrange pear slices and raspberries in it.
  • Chocolate Batter: Dissolve the cocoa powder with 1 tablespoon of water.
  • Mix flour and sugar together in a bowl. In a separate bowl, beat eggs, milk and vanilla.
  • Gradually whisk egg mixture and cocoa mixture into flour and sugar until evenly mixed and light, creamy batter.
  • Fold in 2 tablespoons melted butter. Pour batter carefully into baking dish over fruit and bake for about 45 minutes or until risen and golden brown. Serve warm with cream.


  • 300 ml milk
  • 75 grams caster sugar
  • 500 grams ripe but firm pears, peeled, cored and sliced
  • 100 grams fresh raspberries
  • 1 tablespoon cocoa powder
  • 60 grams plain flour
  • 2 tablespoon unsalted butter, melted
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla essence
