Preparation Method :

  • Make a Layer of 6 pastry sheets by placing them one above the other in a baking pan. Brush each sheet with the butter
  • Mix walnuts/ almonds, breadcrumbs, sugar, cinnamon and cloves.
  • Spread the walnut mixture over the top pastry sheet and place two buttered pastry sheets over this. Repeat in same manner until all ingredients have been used, ending with 6 pastry sheets.
  • Trim edges with sharp knife.
  • Cut diagonal lines to make diamond shaped pieces or cut in square shape pieces.
  • Bake in a pre heated oven for about 1 hour at 180 degree C until golden.
  • Prepare the syrup by boiling together sugar, water, honey and lemon juice for 10 minutes.
  • Pour hot syrup over cooked baklava.
  • Allow it to stand for an hour and then serve it.


  • 250 grams Phyllo (pastry sheets)
  • 250 grams walnuts/Almonds, chopped
  • 150 grams Butter
  • 50 grams Sugar
  • 25 grams Breadcrumbs
  • 1 teaspoon Cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoons Cloves


  • 100 grams confectioner's Sugar
  • 250 ml Water
  • 60 ml honey
  • 1 teaspoon juice of  Lemon

    we don't get pastry sheets here in the village. is there any option?

    Hi Hema...saw your question...if you have a Godrej's 'Nature's basket' in your city...check for 'Filo pastry sheets' in the frozen section....actually you might find it in any of the international food stores in your city...i've used them and they are really good :)
