Preparation Method :

  • Heat the oil in a large heavy bottomed pan. Add the ground spices and fry for about 1 - 2 minutes.
  • Add pork and fry another 3 - 5 minutes. Add salt and water, cook the pork till tender. When done, make sure to have about 1 cup gravy.
  • Boil about 2 liters of salted water. Add rice and cook for about 6 minutes or until its almost done. Strain the excess water through a sieve.
  • Now place the rice over the pork. Dot with butter. Cover with a tight fitting lid and cook on dum for about 10 - 12 minutes or until the rice is done and steaming. Serve hot.


  • 500 grams pork, cut into medium sized pieces
  • 350 grams long grain rice, rinsed, soaked and drained
  • 2 teaspoon butter
  • 75 ml Cooking oil
  • Salt, to taste

Ground to a fine paste

  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1 teaspoon coriander seeds
  • ½ teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon poppy seeds
  • 12 - 15 cashew nuts
  • 6 cloves
  • 9 dry whole red chillies
