Preparation Method :

  • Pour the almond mix with the remaining milk into a heavy- bottomed pan and over low- medium heat. Stir occasionally, till it comes to a boil.
  • Add the remaining ingredients, except the fruit cocktail. Cook, stirring frequently, till it comes to a boil.
  • Remove the pan from heat and set aside till cool.
  • Add the fruit cocktail along with its syrup into the cooled mixture. Stir gently, till well blended.
  • Leave the payasam in the refrigerator till it is time to serve.


  • 750 ml milk
  • 250 Grams canned mixed fruit cocktail
  • Sugar, to taste  
  • 1 teaspoon powdered green cardamom
  • 75 grams almonds, soaked, peeled, drained and ground with a cup of milk
  • Few strands of saffron
  • A pinch of saffron strands
