Preparation Method :

  • Rinse the rice and drain the rice for excess water.
  • Add 3 tablespoons ghee in a pan and add the spices and fry for some time. Then add the rice and fry till slightly golden.
  • Mix in the salt, cashewnuts and raisins. Cook rice with double the quantity of water and bring to boil.
  • Cover and cook over low flame for 10 - 12 minutes or till the rice is cooked
  • Finally, add the sugar, colour and saffron with remaining ghee and mix well. Remove from heat and serve hot.


  • 75 grams ghee / clarified butter
  • 150 grams rice
  • 150 grams sugar
  • A few strands of saffron mixed in a 1 tablespoon of warm milk
  • 4 cloves
  • 4 cardamoms
  • ½ -inch stick cinnamon
  • Pinch of salt
  • 12 chopped cashewnuts
  • 1 tablespoon raisins
  • Few drops of yellow colour
