Preparation Method :

  • Soak the chana dal in 2 cups of water for at least one hour and then drain it.
  • Cook in an open utensil till soft. don't mash.
  • Extract the milk of the coconut to get 1½ cups liquid.
  • To the cooked dal, add the jaggery. Keep on medium heat for about 2 minutes, stirring.
  • Add the coconut milk and then the salt and cardamom powder and bring to a boil.
  • Stir in the chopped cashewnuts and serve hot.


  • 100 grams chana dal / bengal gram
  • 75 grams grated jaggery
  • 200 grams grated coconut
  • 1 pinch cardamom powder
  • 2 tablespoons cashew nut pieces
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
