Preparation Method :

  • Pure or vegetable ghee for deep frying, Boil the water and sugar together until thick for about 10-15 minutes.
  • Sift the flour into a large mixing bowl and add the ground almonds. Heat the butter until very hot and pour it over the flour and almonds.
  • Whip the natural yogurt and stir it into the flour, along with the saffron. Gather the mixture from all around the bowl and form a dough.
  • Knead it gently for about 2-3 minutes. Break off small balls of dough, about half the size of a golf ball, and place on a plate.
  • Heat the ghee in a deep frying pan and drop in about 5 balls at a time. Deep fry until they turn golden remove from the fat and drop into the syrup.
  • Remove from the syrup and place on a serving plate, making sure they do not stick together.


  • 250 ml water
  • 200 grams sugar 
  • 200 grams plain flour
  • 1 tablespoon ground almonds
  • 75 grams butter
  • 2 tablespoons natural yogurt 
  • ½ teaspoon saffron strands, crushed
