Preparation Method :

  • Add in dal with turmeric, salt, oil or ghee and measured water.
  • Cook for about 10 -15 minutes or until mushy .reduce the heat and cook for further 5 minutes and remove from heat.
  • Grind ginger & dry red chilli to a paste.
  • Heat ghee in a frying pan, add cumin seeds fry until it splutter, then add ginger paste. Cook for a few seconds only.
  • Add garam masala and coriander powder. Cook for at least 20 seconds.
  • Add the boiled dal to the baghar followed by coconut.
  • Remove from fire add coriander sprigs and serve hot. 


  • 200 grams split gram
  • ½ teaspoon turmeric powder 
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 teaspoon Cooking oil
  • 50 grams chopped fresh coconut
  • Few sprigs of coriander 

Ingredients for Baghar

  • ½ teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1" piece ginger 
  • 1 dry red chilli 
  • 3 tablespoon ghee
  • ½ teaspoon of garam masala
  • ½ teaspoon coriander powder
