Preparation Method :

  • Cook the split black gram with water and turmeric powder. Adjust seasoning with red chilli powder and salt. Cook until tender. Drain any excess water. Keep aside.
  • Heat the unsalted butter; add cumin seeds and sauté until they crackle. Add the onions, green chillies and ginger. Fry until brown in colour. Add the cooked black gram.
  • Put in the garam masala, tomatoes, and lemon juice. Stir for a minute.
  • Add the ginger and garlic pastes. Mix well. Add half a cup of water and bring to the boil. Add the butter and stir until completely absorbed.


  • 420 grams Split black gram, washed and cleaned
  • ½ teaspoon Turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon Red chilli powder
  • Salt to taste


  • 100 grams Onions, chopped
  • 150 grams Unsalted butter
  •  50 grams Tomatoes, chopped
  • 45 ml Lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon Cumin seeds
  • 6- 8 grams Green chillies, halved
  • 2 " Ginger, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon Garam masala
  • 1 tablespoon Butter
  • 1 teaspoon Ginger paste
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic paste
