Preparation Method :

  • Boil toor dhal with water for about 20 minutes until soft and set aside. Heat the oil and fry the onions with the seeds until golden brown.
  • Lower the heat and add the fresh coriander, spices and salt. Add toor dhaal and stir to mix well.
  • Add the sliced tomatoes, cover and simmer for about 5-7 minutes.
  • Sprinkle with lemon juice and serve hot .


  • 150 grams toor dhal, (Pick over and wash the toor dhal)
  • 75 ml IDHAYAM sesame oil
  • 2 medium onions, peeled and chopped
  • ½ teaspoon mixed onion and mustard seeds
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh coriander
  • ½ teaspoon diced and crushed ginger root 
  • ½ teaspoon crushed garlic 
  • ½ teaspoon ground coriander 
  • ½ teaspoon ground cumin 
  • ½ teaspoon chilli powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 medium tomatoes, sliced
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
