Preparation Method :

  • Rub the fish with turmeric, salt and lemon juice. Keep it aside to marinate for about 20 - 30 minutes.
  • Heat oil and lightly fry the fish on medium heat and remove from oil.
  • Reheat the oil in the pan and add the onion, garam masala. Stir for a few seconds. cook till onions turn golden brown.
  • Stir in the freshly ground paste to the masala with salt and turmeric and cook on low flame till the oil separates and the masala turns into a rich golden colour.
  • Then add in enough water to get the gravy and Bring to boil.
  • Finally add the fish, lower the flame and cover and cook for at least 1 - 2 minutes.
  • Sprinkle garam masala and green coriander.
  • Serve hot with plain boiled rice.


  • 500 grams fish - Cleaned, Washed, dried and cut into small pieces 
  • 2 onions - ground to paste
  • 1 tomato - chopped finely
  • 150 ml IDHAYAM sesame oil for frying and cooking

Grind To a Fine Paste

  • 8-10 flakes garlic 
  • 2" piece ginger
  • 2 tablespoon peanuts 
  • 1 teaspoon mustard seeds 
  • 2-3 whole, dry, red chillies
  • Garam Masala
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1 brown cardamom
  • 3 cloves
  • 2" cinnamon


  • ½ teaspoon turmeric
  • Juice 1 lemon
  • Salt to taste
