Preparation Method :

  • Sprinkle with half the lemon juice on fish and set aside for 30 minutes.
  • Grind the coriander leaves, chillies, coconut, cumin and garlic to a fine paste.
  • Mix in the salt and the remaining lemon juice, then use to coat the fish. Leave to marinate for at least 15 minutes.
  • Cut the banana leaves into four pieces each. Put one marinated fish piece on each piece of banana leaf, along with a little of the marinade, and fold up the leaves.
  • Heat sufficient water in a steamer. Place the wrapped fish in the steamer and steam for 15 minutes.
  • Serve the fish hot, still wrapped in the banana leaves.


  • 10 pomfret fish
  • 6 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 100 grams fresh coriander leaves, chopped
  • 6 green chillies, roughly chopped
  • 100 grams grated fresh coconut
  • 5 teaspoons cumin seeds
  • 10 garlic cloves
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 5 banana leaves
