Preparation Method :

  • In a mixing bowl, combine prawns with salt and turmeric powder and leave to marinate for 15 minutes.
  • Heat 1 tablespoon oil in a frying pan; add coriander, mint, curry leaves and green chillies and fry on medium heat till crisp.
  • In a grinder, combine the fried herbs with lime juice and grind to a fine paste. Transfer to a bowl.
  • Beat the egg with a fork till very frothy and mix into the ground paste. Mix in the all-purpose flour and rice flour and whisk well to make a light batter.
  • Heat oil in a kadhai (wok); drain the prawns of any moisture that may have accumulated.
  • Dip each prawn in the batter and deep-fry till golden and crisp.
  • Remove and drain on kitchen paper. Serve hot with lime wedges or slices.


  • 30 large Prawns, peeled and deveined
  • ½ teaspoon Turmeric powder
  • IDHAYAM MANTRA Peanut oil for frying
  • 1 tablespoon roughly chopped fresh coriander
  • 1 tablespoon roughly chopped fresh mint
  • 1 large sprig curry leaves
  • 2 Green chilies
  • 1 tablespoon lime juice
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose (refined) flour
  • 2 tablespoons rice flour
  • Salt to taste

To serve:

  • Lime slices or wedges
