Preparation Method :

  • Heat the oil in a large non-stick saucepan. Add the onion and sauté for about 5-7 minutes or until golden.
  • Add the whole spices and cook for about a minute or until fragrant. Add the peas, rice, salt and water. Taste and adjust the seasoning with salt.
  • Bring to the boil, cover and cook over for about 10-12 minutes.
  • Remove from the heat and leave covered and undisturbed for another 10-12 minutes to allow the rice to finish off in the steam.
  • Remove the lid and let any excess moisture evaporate.
  • Drizzle over the lemon juice and gently mix in. Serve hot.


  • 350 grams Basmati rice, washed and soaked
  • 150 grams shelled fresh green peas
  • 25 ml IDHAYAM sesame oil
  • 1 onion, thinly sliced
  • Salt to taste
  • Lemon juice to taste

  • 2 inch cinnamon stick, broken
  • 2 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 5-6 cloves
  • 3 large bay leaves
  • 2-3 brown cardamom pods
  • 4-5 green cardamom pods
