Preparation Method :

  • Add the fish pieces with the spice and keep it aside.
  • Mix the ginger paste, garlic paste and the tomato puree in a bowl.
  • Heat the ghee in a kadai and add the garam masala and bay leaves.
  • Add the onions and stir fry the onion until it is tender.
  • Add in the fish pieces, salt and sugar.
  • Gently stir before pouring coconut milk. Cover and cook on low flame for about 5 minutes or until the fish is cooked.
  • When cooked add the lemon juice and serve with rice.


  • 450 grams Ilish fish, sliced and rub with turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon Green chilli paste
  • 1 tablespoon Ginger paste
  • 1 tablespoon Garlic paste
  • 500 grams Onions, finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoon Chilli powder
  • 2 teaspoons Turmeric powder  
  • 1 tablespoon Coconut milk
  • 2 Bay leaves
  • 1 Cardamom pods
  • 4 Cinnamon stick
  • 4 Cloves
  • 1 tablespoon Tomato puree
  • 2 tablespoons Lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon ghee
  • Sugar
  • Salt to taste
