Preparation Method :

  • Cut one onions into slices and finely chop the other 3 onions.
  • Heat 1 teaspoon oil in a pan. Stir-fry rice till it becomes dark brown and remove from oil.
  • Add black gram to the oil and stir-fry till browned. Remove the black gram.
  • Add in the fenugreek and black peppercorns to the same oil. When splatters remove from heat.
  • Stir-fry the sliced onions with oil in a clean pan till golden brown. Add grated coconut and stir-fry till brown.
  • Grind the stir fried rice and black gram together to coarsely powder.
  • Stir fry the grated coconut in a pan. Now grind stir-fried coconut, tamarind, chillies and turmeric to a rough paste and keep aside.
  • Grind fenugreek and peppercorns to a fine paste.
  • Stir fry the chopped onions in the remaining oil until onion becomes soft.
  • Add ground coconut mixture with 5 cups water and salt. Add mackerels.
  • Then mix ground rice and black gram dal with the curry. Add the fenugreek and peppercorn paste. Stir and cook for about 3 - 5 minutes.


  • 2 tablespoons Rice

  • 6 Large Mackerels, Cleaned, rinsed, marinate with salt and wash after 10 - 15 minutes.
  • 275 grams grated Coconut    
  • 9 Red chillies    
  • 2 teaspoons Turmeric powder    
  • 45 - 50 Peppercorns
  • 250 grams Onions        
  • 50 ml Cooking oil
  • 1 tablespoon tamarind    
  • ½ teaspoon Fenugreek    
  • Salt to taste
