Preparation Method :

  • Wash and soak the dal for one hour.
  • Drain. Grind to a fine paste using little water.
  • Mix in the finely minced ingredients and curry leaves. Add salt.
  • Heat the oil in a heavy pan.
  • Shape the stiff batter in a ring similar to a small doughnut and deep fry to a golden brown over medium flame. Take care not to overheat the oil. Else the centers will remain uncooked.
  • Drain onto absorbent paper. Serve hot with coconut chutney, or by itself.
  • Fried as small teaspoon full balls, they make a wonderful appetizer.


  • 300 grams Black gram dal
  • 100 grams Small onions, finely minced
  • 3 Green Chillies, Finely minced
  • Ginger a small piece, finely minced
  • 1 sprig Curry leaves
  • Salt to taste
  • Coconut Oil for frying
