Preparation Method :

  • Dry roast the dals for about 5 minutes on low heat.
  • Fry the peppercorns, cumin seeds, red chillies and asafoetida powder in ghee.
  • Powder everything in a dry grinder, adding salt as required.
  • Serve with hot rice and ghee.


  • 150 grams red gram dal
  • 1 tablespoon black peppercorns
  • 1 tablespoon Bengal gram dal
  • 1 tablespoon black gram dal
  • 1 tablespoon ghee   
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 5 dry red chillies
  • ½ teaspoon asafoetida powder
  • Salt to taste
