Preparation Method :

  • Clean the crab by Cutting the body section in half and crack the claws with a sharp blow from a hammer or cleaver.
  • Avoid splintering the claws, remove the green part and wash in running water . Repeat with the other crab.
  • Grind the garlic, chillies and ginger in a food processor.
  • Heat a deep fry pan or wok and add the oil. Fry the spice paste, stir constantly, without browning.
  • Stir in the tomato ketchup, sugar and water ,mix the sauce well. When just boiling, add all the crab pieces and toss in the sauce until well coated and hot.
  • Serve in a large bowl, sprinkled with the spring onions.


  • 750 grams cooked crabs
  • 4 garlic cloves
  • 4 fresh red chilies, seeded 
  • ½ inch fresh root ginger, peeled and sliced
  • 5 tablespoon IDHAYAM sesame oil
  • 320 ml cups tomato ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon dark brown sugar
  • 200 ml warm water
  • 5 spring onions, chopped
  • Cucumber chunks and hot toast, to serve
