Preparation Method :

  • Soak the tamarind in warm water for 10 minutes. Squeeze the pulp and strain out the juice and set aside.
  • In a food processor grind the first nine ingredients and set aside to make a fine masala paste
  • Heat the oil in a pan on medium flame. Add the green chillies along with the masala paste and fry for 5 minutes till the masala turns dark.
  • Add water and bring the gravy to a boil. Add the salt to taste
  • Reduce the flame. Gently add the pieces of fish to the gravy. Add the tamarind juice and let it simmer open for 10 minutes. Do not cover the pan at any point of the cooking.
  • Turn off the heat and the Goan fish curry is ready. 


  • 1.5 kg Fish, cleaned and cut to pieces
  • 2 large onions, sliced
  • 2 large tomato, sliced
  • 500 grams scraped coconut
  • 10 dry red chillies
  • 5 tablespoon ginger garlic paste
  • 4 tablespoon coriander powder
  • 4 tablespoon cumin powder
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon chilli powder
  • Tamarind, size of a lime
  • 4 green chilies, slit
  • 4 tablespoon sesame oil
  • Salt to taste
