Preparation Method :

  • Cut the bitter gourd into two halves and remove the seeds. Now, cut them   into square shaped tiny pieces.
  • Likewise, cut the tomatoes also into tiny square pieces.
  • Peel the onion and garlic and cut into tiny pieces.
  • Heat a heavy bottomed vessel. Add sesame oil and when it is hot, add bitter gourd, tomatoes, onion, garlic, chilli powder, turmeric powder, asafoetida powder and salt.
  • Fry on medium flame until the bitter gourd blends well with tomato and other ingredients and turns soft.
  • The sesame oil acts as a preservative and also removes the bitterness of the vegetable.
  • This can be served with steamed rice.


  •  250 grams bitter gourd
  • 250 grams tomato
  • 250 grams small onion
  • 100 ml of IDHAYAM Sesame oil
  • 25 grams garlic
  • 4 teaspoon red chilli powder
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • ½ teaspoon asafoetida powder
  • Salt to taste
