Preparation Method :

  • Mix in the chilli powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder, cumin powder, garam masala with a little salt and water and make a paste.
  • Heat oil in a heavy bottomed pan. Fry the onions till golden, add the potatoes and fry for about 5 minutes.
  • Then add the tomatoes and fry for further 2 minutes. Add in the paste stir for a minute and add in the rice.
  • Stir-fry for 1 minute, then add in water about 1 inch above the surface of rice.
  • When the water starts to boil, cover and cook on medium flame for about 2 minutes.
  • Reduce to low flame for about 10 minutes or until the rice and potatoes are done. Serve hot.


  • 150 grams onions, sliced
  • 150 grams tomatoes, chopped
  • 350 grams long grain rice, Rinsed, soaked and drained
  • ½ teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon red chilli powder
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder 
  • ½ teaspoon cumin powder
  • ½ teaspoon garam masala
  • 150 grams potatoes, cut into medium pieces
  • 50 ml Cooking oil
  • Salt, to taste
