Preparation Method :

  • Mix black gram paste with the remaining ingredients. Add a little water and knead to make a soft dough. Keep aside for about an hour.
  • Before frying, knead the dough again. Shape the dough into golf balls. Roll each ball out into a disc.
  • Heat the oil in a wok or pan; fry the discs, one by one, turning frequently on high heat till golden.
  • They will be slightly white on the edges. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain the excess oil on paper towels.
  • Serve hot with spiced potatoes.


  • 150 grams Semolina
  • 250 grams Refined flour
  • 100 grams Black gram, rinsed, soaked, drained and ground to paste
  • 2 tablespoon Cooking oil
  • A pinch Asafoetida
  • Small pinch Onion seeds
  • Salt to taste
