Preparation Method :

  • Ground the semolina and the fenugreek seeds.
  • Mix the two pastes and add enough water to make a batter of dropping consistency. Adjust seasoning with salt.
  • Take the idli moulds. Pour spoonful of the batter in each mould, put some mixed pickle over it and then top with another spoon of the batter.
  • Steam for about 15-20 minutes or until done. Serve hot with coconut chutney.


  • 250 grams Semolina, soaked for 15-20 minutes, drained and ground
  • 400 grams Split black gram, soaked, drained and ground to fine paste    
  • 1 teaspoon, Fenugreek seeds  
  • 50 grams Mixed pickle, chopped
  • Salt to taste
