Preparation Method :

  • Soak the black gram dal, red gram dal, Bengal gram dal, rice and red chillies in 2 cups of water for two hours. Grind coarsely.
  • Add the salt, grated coconut, chopped onion, coriander leaves and asafetida powder.
  • Heat the Griddle and pour a ladle of batter and spread like a dosai, as thin as possible. Make a hole in the centre.
  • Pour a teaspoon of oil in the centre and around the edges of the batter. Cook till golden brown at the base.
  • Flip over carefully and fry till golden and crisp.
  • Serve hot with coconut chutney.


  • 150 grams uncooked rice
  • 5 tablespoon grated fresh coconut
  • 1 large onion, chopped fine
  • 75 grams black gram dhal
  • 75 grams red gram dhal
  • 40 grams Bengal gram dhal
  • A bunch of coriander leaves, chopped fine
  • ½ teaspoon asafoetida powder
  • 6 dry red chillies
  • Salt to taste
  • IDHAYAM sesame oil for frying
