Preparation Method :

  • Mix the rice flour and salt together. Heat the water until bubbles start appearing at the bottom of the pan.
  • When the water is just about boiling, add to the rice flour.
  • Stirring continuously until the rice flour is coming together to form a moist dough.
  • Make small balls out of it.
  • Place the balls firmly into your idiyappam press or mould.
  • Sprinkle some coconut over the plate or banana leaf.
  • Start pressing the idiyappam onto the plate or banana leaf.
  • Place the plate or banana leaf on steamer.
  • Steam it for about 10 minutes.
  • Open, unmould, and serve hot.


  • 400 grams rice flour
  • Salt to taste
  • 4 tablespoon of grated coconut
