Preparation Method :

  • Soak the green gram dal and rice in water for 45 minutes and grind coarsely in a liquidizer (mixie) along with the green chillies.
  • To the ground batter add the salt, asafoetida powder, chopped onion, grated coconut, mashed potato and coriander leaves and mix well to make a batter of thick dropping consistency.
  • Heat the Griddle and pour a ladle of batter and spread like a dosai, as thin as possible. Make a hole in the centre.
  • Pour a teaspoon of oil in the centre and around the edges of the batter. Cook till golden brown at the base.
  • Flip over carefully and fry till golden and crisp.
  • Serve hot with coconut chutney.


  • 225 grams green gram dal
  • 75 grams uncooked rice
  • 50 grams onion, chopped fine
  • 2 tablespoon grated fresh coconut
  • 1 potato, boiled and mashed  
  • 6 green chillies, chopped
  • ¼ teaspoon asafoetida powder
  • A bunch of coriander leaves, chopped fine
  • Cooking oil for shallow frying
  • Salt to taste
