Preparation Method :

  • Heat half of the ghee and fry the semolina till golden. Set aside.
  • Heat the remaining ghee and fry the cashew nuts till golden and set it aside.
  • Mix the semolina, ginger, chillies, coriander leaves, sour curd and salt, using very little water. The batter should be of a thick pouring consistency.
  • Heat 2 teaspoon ghee and add all the ingredients for tempering. When the mustard seeds splutter, add to the batter. Mix well.
  • Mix in the fried cashew nuts. Steam in greased idli moulds in a pressure cooker without the weight at least for 10 - 15 minutes.
  • Serve hot with coconut chutney.


  • 75 grams ghee
  • 150 grams fine semolina
  • 2 tablespoon cashew nuts, halved and chopped
  • 1" piece ginger grated
  • 2 green chillies, chopped fine
  • A small bunch of coriander leaves, chopped fine
  • 75 grams sour curd
  • Salt to taste


  • 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 2 teaspoon ghee
  • A few curry leaves
