Preparation Method :

  • Soak thoor dal for 15 minutes and cook in pressure pan for 5 whistles .
  • Squeeze lemon juice. Slit green chillies and chop ginger fine or make paste.
  • Chop tomatoes into medium small pieces.
  • Heat oil, and allow mustard seeds to splutter. In 100 ml of water add turmeric powder, green chilies salt, ginger, tomatoes and asafoetida powder.
  • Cook for 2 minutes and then add the dal. Add more water if needed.
  • Add lime juice and garnish with chopped coriander leaves. An easy to prepare rasam.
  • Serve hot with rice.


  • 100 grams of Thoor dal
  • 200 grams of Tomato
  • 1 teaspoon Ginger
  • 4 Green chillies
  • 1 teaspoon Asafoetida powder
  • 1 teaspoon Turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon Mustard seeds
  • 4 tablespoon Lime juice
  • 1 teaspoon Cooking oil
  • Salt to taste
