Preparation Method :

  • Place an inverted colocasia leaf flat, spread the paste thinly over it, place another leaf on top and apply the paste again.
  • Continue this process for remaining leaves. Tuck in the sides and roll tightly, secure with a string. Similarly, make more such rolls.
  • Heat the oil in a pan; fry the rolls on all sides, then cover the pan with a lid containing some water.
  • Simmer to low flame and cook for about 45-50 minutes, stirring occasionally. Remove and keep aside to cool.
  • To serve, cut the rolls into slices and shallow-fry. Serve with lemon wedges.


  • 25-30 Colocasia leaves, centre stems removed
  • 60 grams Gram flour  
  • 100 grams Whole wheat flour  
  • 75 grams Rice flour

The Filling: Ground to Thick Paste

  • 150 ml, Tamarind juice
  • 6 Dried red chillies  
  • 100 ml Cooking oil
  • 6 Green chillies
  • 1 Garlic clove
  • ¾ teaspoon Cumin seeds, roasted
  • 1 teaspoon Coriander seeds, roasted
  • 5-6 Cloves  
  • 1" Cinnamon stick
  • ¼ teaspoon Turmeric powder
  • 2 Bananas, mashed
  • 2 tablespoon Fresh Green coriander leaves, chopped
  • 2 tablespoon Jaggery  
  • Salt to taste
