Preparation Method :

  • Heat 2 tablespoon of oil in a pan, add mustard seeds, when it splutters, add the other ingredients given under seasoning.
  • Add the onion, ginger, garlic paste and saute for a few minutes.
  • Add the salan paste, chilli powder, turmeric powder and cook the masala well till it leaves oil. Add little water if it sticks to the pan.
  • Then add tamarind extract, chillies and cook covered on low flame till the gravy reaches a saucy consistency and leaves oil.


  • 200 grams Chillies (bajji milagai)
  • Small gooseberry sized Tamarind
  • ¾ teaspoon Chilli powder
  • ¼ teaspoon Turmeric powder
  • 1 Onion
  • 1 inch piece Ginger
  • 4 cloves Garlic
  • 2 tablespoon IDHAYAM sesame Oil

Salan paste

  • 2 tablespoon Coriander seeds
  • 2 tablespoon Peanuts
  • 1 teaspoon White sesame seeds
  • 1 teaspoon Cumin seeds
  • 2 tablespoon Coconut (desiccated)

For the seasoning

  • 1 teaspoon Mustard seeds
  • ½ teaspoon Fenugreek seeds
  • 1 teaspoon Cumin seeds
  • 3 Cloves
  • Few Curry leaves
