Preparation Method :

  • Heat the oil in a wok or large pan. Add the onion seeds, green chillies and onion, fry for about 3-5 minutes or until the onion turns golden.
  • Simmer to low flame and add the turmeric, desiccated coconut and salt. Fry for about a minute, stirring.
  • Add the okra pieces to the pan. Turn the heat to medium-high and stir-fry briskly for few minutes or until the okra has turned lightly golden.
  • Add the yogurt, tomatoes and fresh coriander. Cook for further 2 more minutes. Transfer to a warmed serving dish and serve hot.


  • 500 grams okra, washed, trimmed and cut into small pieces
  • 2 tablespoon Cooking oil
  • 2 tablespoon natural yogurt 
  • 3 teaspoon desiccated coconut 
  • 2 tomatoes, quartered 
  • ½ teaspoon onion seeds
  • 4 fresh red or green chillies, chopped 
  • 1 onion, sliced
  •  ¼ teaspoon ground turmeric 
  • Salt, to taste
  • 25 grams chopped fresh coriander
