Preparation Method :

  • Whip the yogurt in a bowl and mix in the garam masala and chilli powder. Set aside.
  • Heat the oil and fry the onions until golden brown.
  • Add in all the spices and seasonings and with yogurt mixture to the onions, blend it well.
  • Stir-fry for about 2 minutes. Stir in the potatoes and the water, cover and simmer for 5 minutes or until the potatoes are cooked.
  • Throw in the tomatoes, fresh coriander and green chillies. Simmer for further 2 minutes and serve immediately.


  • 5 tablespoons natural yogurt 
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder 
  • 5 tablespoons peanut oil
  • 2 large onions, peeled and chopped
  • 1 teaspoon ginger root, diced and crushed
  • 1 teaspoon crushed garlic 
  • 1½ teaspoons salt
  • 2 teaspoons ground almonds 
  • 1 teaspoon poppy seeds
  • 1 teaspoon desiccated coconut 
  • 3 cloves
  • 2 whole cardamoms
  • 2 whole sticks of cinnamon
  • 4 black peppercorns
  • 10 small whole new potatoes, scraped 
  • 200ml water 
  • 9 cherry tomatoes 
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh coriander 
  • 2 green chilies, deseeded and chopped if desired
