Preparation Method :

  • For Pakoras:
  • Wash the arbi and put in a pressure cooker for 1 whistle.
  • Take out it from the cooker and allow to cool.
  • Peel the skin and cut into pieces.
  • In a bowl, add arbi, besan, salt, turmeric, lemon juice and mix well.
  • Make small pakoras out of it.
  • Heat a pan, Pour sesame oil.
  • Deep fry the pakoras and keep aside.
  • For Gravy:
  • Heat a pan, add Sesame oil,mustard seeds, bay leaves, onion paste, mustard powder, chilli powder, turmeric powder, ginger and garlic paste, Jeera powder and salt in it.
  • Saute the mixture for a while.
  • Add water, cook till the gravy became thickens.
  • Add the pakoras and cook for 3 minutes.
  • Garnish with coriander leaves.


  • 10 medium sized taro/arbi root
  • ¼ teaspoon of mustard seeds
  • 2 bay leaf
  • 1 tablespoon ginger and garlic paste
  • 1small onion paste
  • 1 teaspoon of turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon of red chilli powder
  • 2 teaspoon of mustard powder
  • 1 teaspoon of jeera powder
  • 1 small sized lemon
  • 1-2 teaspoon of sesame oil
  • 2-3 teaspoon of finely chopped coriander
  • 100 grams besan
  • Salt to taste
