Preparation Method :

  • Discard stems and finely chop the palak, then wash leaves and drain.
  • Steam the spinach leaves by keeping in a metal strainer or a colander over a pan of boiling water for 5 minutes. Keep it aside.
  • Heat oil, add garlic paste and saute for 30 seconds on low flame.
  • Add the red chilli bits, soya sauce, vinegar and tomato sauce with the cornflour paste, stirring continuously.
  • Add salt, pepper & sugar. Cook till thick.
  • Mix in the steamed spinach. Remove from fire.
  • Serve with steamed rice.


  • 250 grams spinach (palak) - with small leaves

Garlic Sauce 

  • 2 teaspoon garlic paste 
  • 2 dried, red chillies - broken into bits 
  • 2 teaspoon soya sauce
  • 2 teaspoon vinegar
  • 2 tablespoon tomato sauce
  • ½ teaspoon pepper 
  • ¼ teaspoon sugar
  • 1 ½ tablespoon corn flour dissolved in 1 cup water 
  • 1 ½ tablespoon Cooking oil
