Preparation Method :

  • Beat the butter in a bowl with the garlic, paprika and a little salt until well mixed.
  • Use half the spiced butter to spread one side of each bread.
  • Sandwich the slices together with the ham and cheese.
  • Butter the outsides of the bread slices with the remaining spiced butter.
  • Heat a large, heavy-based frying pan or griddle and gently fry the sandwiches, in batches if necessary, for 2-3 minutes on each side until golden.
  • Cut the slices in half to serve.


  • 100 grams butter, softened
  • 4 garlic cloves, crushed
  • Good pinch of hot smoked paprika
  • 20 thin slices from a small crusty loaf
  • 100 grams lomo or Serrano ham, sliced wafer thin
  • 100 grams Tetilla or Manchego cheese, thinly sliced
  • Salt
