This common but deliciously famous old English meat loaf can be served with 10 people and the great thing about this recipe is you can serve it hot or even cold. The process would be hard but you and your family will be amazed with the finish product. For the preparation it will be 30 minutes and for the cooking time will be 2 hours and 15 minutes only.

Preparation Method :

  • Grease a pudding basin. Mix all of the ingredients together in a large mixing bowl.
  • Season very well with salt and pepper.
  • Pile the mixture into the pudding basin. Cover with foil or greaseproof paper and tie down with string.
  • Gently cook in a steamer or covered saucepan half-filled with boiling water, for 2 hours.
  • Check the liquid level frequently and add more boiling water if necessary.
  • Cool the loaf in the pudding basin, pressing it down with weights. Slice the meat loaf.
  • Serve hot or cold.


  • 750 grams lean stewing steak
  • 750 grams lean bacon, derinded and finely minced
  • 200 grams lamb's liver, finely minced
  • 2 onion, peeled and finely chopped
  • 100 grams fresh brown breadcrumbs
  • 4 eggs, beaten
  • 4 tablespoons chopped parsley
  • Small pinch of dried thyme
  • 4 teaspoons chopped basil
  • Salt
  • Freshly ground black pepper
