Preparation Method :

  • Topping: Combine sugar, golden syrup and butter in medium pan, stir over heat until butter is melted. Bring to boil, simmer or until mixture darkens and thickens slightly. Stir in nuts.
  • Beat butter, sugar and yolk in small bowl until smooth. Stir in remaining sifted dry ingredients.
  • Press mixture evenly over base of greased rectangular slice pan.
  • Bake in moderate oven about 20 minutes or until lightly browned. Stand base for 5 minutes then spread with hot topping. Bake in moderate oven for further 5 minutes. Cool in pan.


  • 150 grams butter
  • 100 grams castor sugar
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 150 grams plain flour
  • 25 grams self-raising flour
  • 2 tablespoons custard powder


  • 100 grams butter, chopped
  • 100 grams firmly packed brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon golden syrup
  • 150 grams unsalted roasted peanuts, chopped
