Preparation Method :

  • Mix moong dhal paste with coriander leaves, baking powder, besan, lemon juice and salt.
  • Heat the oil in a non stick pan or griddle. Butter the slices lightly.
  • Spread the dhal mixture on the slice on the buttered side.
  • Invert the slice with the dhal side down in the pan. Spread some dhal paste on the upper side and shallow fry on both sides until light brown.
  • Remove from pan and serve hot with tomato sauce or mint chutney.


  • 150 grams Moong dhal - soaked for about an hour and ground to a paste with green chillies
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 75 ml cooking oil
  • 4 green chilies
  • A bunch of coriander leaves - chopped finely
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 tablespoon besan
  • 4 slices bread - lightly buttered
  • Salt to taste
