This is a pastry that originated in England. This delicious cake is made with apples for a fruity flavour that will remain in your taste buds. You can serve this along with some cream to complement the fruity favour of this cake.

Preparation Time :
15 minutes

Cooking Time :
25 minutes

Preparation Method :

  • Preheat the oven to moderate.
  • Grease and line an 8" cake tin with greaseproof paper.
  • Sift the flour with the baking powder, add the spice powder and butter and blend with your fingertips or a pastry blender. Stir in the sugar and the apples. Bind with the egg to make a spreading mixture.
  • Turn the mixture into the prepared tin and bake for about an hour or until firm to touch.
  • Turn out when slightly cold and dredge with castor sugar or, if you prefer, sift icing sugar onto the cake.
  • Serve cold with pouring cream.


  • 250 grams refined flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ spoon mixed spice powder
  • 100 grams butter
  • 200 grams sugar
  • 500 grams apples, peeled, cored and chopped
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoon caster sugar (or icing sugar)
  • 400 grams whipped cream to serve
