Preparation Method :

  • Mix together the rolled oats, mustard and cayenne. Rub in the margarine, and then stir in the grated cheese.
  • Dissolve the soda in the boiling water and pour over the dry ingredients.
  • Mix to a stiff consistency, adding a little extra water if necessary.
  • Turn out on to a floured board and knead lightly. Roll out the mixture until it is about 1 inch thick.
  • Cut into rounds using a 3 inch biscuit cutter.
  • Transfer the rounds to a greased baking sheet and bake in a preheated moderately hot oven for about 10 minutes or until golden.
  • Transfer to a wire rack to cool.


  • 50 grams rolled oats
  • ½ teaspoon mustard powder
  • ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 25 grams margarine
  • 50 grams Cheddar cheese, grated
  • ½ teaspoon bicarbonate of soda
  • 1 tablespoons boiling water
