EASY APPLE PIE

Preparation Method :

  • Pie Base. Sieve the flour. Rub the butter into the flour till the mixture resembles breadcrumbs.
  • Add sugar, salt, vanilla and egg yolk and mix well.
  • Add cold water to make the pastry hold together. Make a ball of dough. Don't knead too much. Arrange in pie dish. Cut the ends with a pastry cutter. Prick the base with a fork and bake.
  • Keep around ¼ of the dough for the criss-cross topping strips.
  • Roll out the dough to cover base of an pie dish and press gently. Prick with a fork. Bake at 200°C / 400°F for 10 minutes.
  • Cook the apples in a saucepan till it dries up. Add sugar and cardamom powder. Put it on the pastry base.
  • Roll out remaining dough and cut into strips using a cookie cutter. Put on top of the pie in a criss-cross manner. Press tightly on the edges.
  • Glaze it with lightly beaten egg / milk. Sprinkle some castor sugar on it.
  • Bake at 200°C / 400°F for about 20 - 30 minutes or till done. Sprinkle some nuts on the pie.

INGREDIENTS

Base

  • A pinch salt
  • Few drops vanilla essence
  • A pinch of sugar
  • One egg yolk
  • 3 tablespoons cold water
  • 150 grams refined flour
  • 100 grams unsalted butter

Filling

  • 100 grams powdered sugar
  • ½ teaspoon cardamom powder
  • 500 grams apples peeled and sliced
