Preparation Method :

  • Sprinkle the beef with the flour. Season with salt and pepper. Heat the oil in a large heavy-bottomed pan over medium heat.
  • Add the beef in small batches and sauté until browned all over, 10 minutes.
  • Add the onion, potatoes, carrots, and rutabaga and sauté over medium heat until lightly browned, 8-10 minutes.
  • Pour in the stock. Season with salt and pepper. Simmer over low heat until the meat is very tender, 2 hours. Serve hot.


  • 1 kg stew beef, cut into small chunks
  • 4 tablespoons all-purpose (plain) flour
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper
  • 100 ml sesame oil
  • 2 large onion, coarsely chopped
  • 6 medium potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • 4 large carrots, coarsely chopped
  • 1 rutabaga turnip, peeled and coarsely chopped
  • 500 ml beef stock
