BROAD BEAN AND HAM FLAN

Lean ham is used in preparing broad bean and ham flan. Pastry is baked to make it crunchy, and mixture of bean, parsley, and chopped ham are gradually added for filling. Condiments add flavour making it more enjoying to it. This dish is best served with a salad.

20 minutes

Cooking Time :
40 minutes

Preparation Method :

  • Roll out the pastry and line an 8 inch flan case.
  • Prick well with a fork and bake blind in a preheated moderately hot oven for 20 to 25 minutes until lightly browned.
  • For the filling, melt the margarine in a saucepan; add the flour and cook, for 1 minute, stirring.
  • Drain the beans and add enough milk to the liquor. Gradually add this mixture to the flour, stirring well.
  • Bring to the boil, and cook for 2 minutes. Remove from the heat. Add the beans, parsley, chopped ham and seasoning to taste.
  • Pile into the warm flan case.
  • Serve immediately with a salad.

INGREDIENTS

  • Whole meal pastry made with 500 grams whole meal flour
  • 100 grams margarine
  • 50 grams plain unbleached white flour
  • 500 grams broad beans
  • Skimmed milk
  • 4 tablespoons chopped parsley
  • 500 grams cooked lean ham, chopped
  • Salt
  • Freshly ground black pepper
