Preparation Method :

  • Melt the ghee in a heavy-based frying pan and fry half of the onions until soft. Remove from the pan with a slotted spoon and set it aside.
  • Increase the heat, add the meat and saute until it is sealed on all sides.
  • Remove the meat from the pan and set aside.
  • Add the chilli powder, ginger, salt and the remaining onions to the pan, then stir in the yogurt.
  • Cook for about 3-5 minutes, then add in the. Cover and cook at least for 10-12 minutes.
  • Add the garlic, cardamom seeds, garam masala, ground cumin seeds and the browned onions.
  • Cover and simmer for 20-25 minutes or until the lamb is tender.
  • Add little water if needed and serve hot.


  • 500 grams boned shoulder of lamb, cut into small cubes
  • 250 grams natural yogurt
  • 100 grams ghee
  • 500 grams onions, sliced
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala
  • ½ teaspoon cumin seeds, dry-roasted and ground
  • 2-3 garlic cloves, crushed
  • 4-5 cardamom seeds
  • 1 teaspoon chilli powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • Salt, to taste

    I tried this the first time, and I love the taste. My daughter loved it because it is a little bit spicey and she loves spicy foods
