Preparation Method :

  • Marinate the lamb in a large bowl, mix thoroughly so that the meat is well coated. Cover and refrigerate for about 2-3 hours.
  • Heat the oil in a heavy-based saucepan and add the whole spices. Fry for about half a minute, add in the marinated lamb mixture.
  • Cook, stirring occasionally for 20-22 minutes or until the oil separates from the meat. Add the butter.
  • Add the remaining whisked yogurt to the meat. Adjust seasoning with salt and pepper.
  • Bring to the boil stirring continuously. Cover and simmer for another 20-22 minutes stirring occasionally.
  • Add black pepper and the garam masala, mix well into the sauce.
  • Serve it with Basmati Rice.


  • 550 grams boneless leg of lamb cut into bite-sized pieces
  • ½ teaspoon garam masala
  • 100 ml Greek yogurt, whisked with a cup of water to smooth consistency
  • 50 ml Cooking oil
  • 1 tablespoon butter    
  • Salt and freshly ground black Pepper, to taste

Whole Spices

  • 2 bay leaves
  • 2-3 cardamom pods, crushed
  • 2-3 cloves
  • ½ teaspoon cumin seeds
  • ¾ inch cinnamon stick

Ground Spices

  • ½ teaspoon cumin seeds
  • ½ teaspoon fennel seeds
  • 1 teaspoon ginger paste
  • ½ teaspoon turmeric
  • 100 ml Greek yogurt
