Preparation Method :

  • Fill each chilli with a generous amount of spice mixture. Store the stuffed chillies in a jar and keep in the sun for about a week. Shake the jar twice a day.
  • Make sure not to use a glass jar to store the pickle as the green chillies get discoloured.
  • Consume the pickle as soon as the filling sticks to the chillies and becomes softer.
  • The Filling: Mix all the spices together with lemon juice.


  • 1 kg green chillies, long and thick, washed, wiped and make a vertical slit in the centre

The Filling

  • 250 grams mustard seeds, powdered
  • 1½ teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 tablespoon aniseed, coarsely pounded
  • 250 grams salt
  • ½ teaspoon onion seeds
  • A pinch asafetida
  • 5-6 lemon juice
