Preparation Method :

  • Peel the potatoes and mash.
  • Preheat 3 tablespoons oil in a small frying pan.
  • Add mustard seeds and curry leaves.
  • After a minute add onion, green chilies and grated ginger and fry for 3 minutes.
  • Add potatoes, turmeric powder, salt and lime juice.
  • Fry for 2 minutes. Remove from fire.
  • Prepare a thick batter using gram flour, salt, soda bi carbonate and a little water.
  • Divide the potatoes into 8 equal portions. Make balls.
  • Preheat remaining oil over high heat.
  • Dip the balls in the batter and deep fry 3-4 at a time till they turn pale brown.


  • 8 boiled potatoes
  • 250 ml IDHAYAM MANTRA peanut oil
  • 3 teaspoons mustard seeds
  • 2 sprig curry leaves
  • 2 finely chopped onion
  • 4 green chilies
  • 3 tablespoons grated ginger
  • 2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • Salt to taste 
  • 1 lemon
  • 300 grams gram flour
  • A pinch of soda bi carbonate 
  • Water
