Preparation Method :

  • Mix the mashed potatoes with all the other ingredients and the ground spices in a bowl until smooth. Divide it into 10-12 equal portions and set aside.
  • Take one portion of the potato mixture, grease your hands and shape it into a ball. Flatten each ball into a patty.
  • Heat the oil on a flat griddle or frying pan over a low-medium heat. Fry each potato cake for about 3-5 minutes or until golden and crispy, turning once.
  • Finish with finely sliced red onion and freshly chopped coriander.
  • Serve hot with Mint and Yogurt Chutney.


  • 225 grams potatoes, washed, boiled, peeled and mashed
  • ½ onion, finely chopped
  • 2 slices white bread, blitzed to breadcrumbs
  • 3 teaspoon lemon juice
  • Freshly ground black pepper and salt, to taste
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • Cooking oil, for shallow frying
  • Red onion, finely sliced
  • Fresh coriander leaves, finely chopped

Ground Spices

  • 1 teaspoon ginger
  • 3-4 chillies
  • ½ teaspoon garam masala
  • Dry Roasted and Coarsely Ground
  • ½ teaspoon cumin seeds
  • ½ teaspoon coriander seeds
