Preparation Method :

  • Heat oil in a saucepan. Add the onion and garlic and cook gently for about 3-5 minutes or until soft.
  • Add to the mashed sweet potato and season with the nutmeg, salt and pepper. Stir together until mixed thoroughly. Leave to cool.
  • Shape the mixture into 4 oval potato patties. Dip first in the beaten egg, then coat in the polenta. Refrigerate at least for half an hour.
  • Heat the oil in a frying pan and cook the potato cakes for about 5 minutes on each side. 


  • 750 grams sweet potatoes, peeled and cut into large chunks, steamed, drained and mashed
  • 1 onion, peeled and chopped
  • 1 garlic clove, peeled and crushed
  • Pinch of freshly grated nutmeg
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • 1 medium egg, beaten
  • 50 grams quick-cook polenta
  • 100 ml IDHAYAM sesame oil
